About
Greg Karvellas is an acclaimed theatre director, and creative producer, based in Berlin, working across Europe, the UK, and South Africa. With over 20 years in the theatre and entertainment industry, Greg has established himself as a leading figure in directing, producing, and storytelling.
His journey began as a stage and production manager, gaining extensive experience in theatre and television across South Africa and internationally. In 2011, he joined the Fugard Theatre, where he progressed from production manager to producer, then general manager, and resident director. In 2018, he became the Fugard Theatre’s first artistic director, helming award-winning productions such as Bad Jews, Oleanna, Shakespeare in Love, The Father, The Road to Mecca, and Master Harold… and the Boys until the theatre’s closure during the COVID-19 pandemic.
During the pandemic, Greg expanded his expertise into film, online corporate video, and digital content production, directing projects for Cape Town Opera, Virgin Active SA, The Civil Aviation Authority SA, and YONDR Data Centres. In 2022, he directed the acclaimed short film The Hive and contributed to the Fugard Theatre Web Archive with a series of short documentaries.
Recently, Greg directed and produced MOFFIE at Riverside Studios in London, earning 5-star reviews in major arts publications. In February 2025, he directed the South African premiere of Dear Evan Hansen, which received critical acclaim.

- Developing new plays in the UK and South Africa for the Common Humanity Arts Trust.
Based in Berlin, Greg is actively seeking new directing, producing, and coaching opportunities in Europe, the UK, and beyond.
