At the heart of Greg’s work is a deep commitment to new writing and to nurturing both emerging and established theatre makers. He is drawn to stories that are human-centric work that places people, relationships, and emotional truth at the centre of the theatrical experience. Critics have noted his “unique ability to tap into the human dimension of a story, making it come alive on stage” and described his direction as work that “beautifully mines the play’s insides… an alchemy that is utterly beguiling.” He believes profoundly in the power of live theatre and particularly in the theatre space as a sacred, communal, and healing environment for audiences, something he feels has never been more vital in an increasingly digitally saturated world.
While Greg is genuinely excited by new work and world premiere productions, he has an equally growing passion for reimagining classic and canonical texts, bringing fresh perspectives and contemporary theatrical language to iconic works of dramatic literature. Whether working with a living playwright on a brand-new script or excavating the depths of a canonical masterwork, he approaches every project with the same rigour, curiosity, and hunger.
His main forte is dramatic theatre of all scales, from intimate studio productions to large-scale international festival work, though he has equal passion for mixed-format theatre, interdisciplinary performance, and musical theatre, and is constantly seeking out new forms, genres, and theatrical languages to explore. He works extensively with sound design as a dramaturgical tool and is drawn to the abstract and unconventional, while always remaining in service of what the script and story demand. As one critic observed, his productions are “beautifully nuanced and paced”, a quality that comes directly from his instinct to listen to the material first.
Above all, Greg is a deeply collaborative theatre director, working in close creative dialogue with his designers, composers, sound artists, and casts, and is constantly inspired by what artists can achieve when they come together around a shared vision.
