The Eulogists (World Premiere)
In a small town under intense media scrutiny, the world waits for a great statesman to die. Tensions run high as Audrey, a once-successful author who profited from her past access to the leader, isolates herself in a rented room. Zee, an ambitious researcher desperate to uncover an exclusive story about the leader’s past, shares the space with Audrey as cabin fever begins to set in. Their fragile equilibrium is disrupted by Harris, a charismatic American radio correspondent with a few bottles of wine and a plan to shake things up. As their motivations collide, personal ambitions and the weight of losing a figure of hope unravel in this gripping, darkly comedic drama.
This brand-new play, written by acclaimed South African playwright Louis Viljoen, is the latest in a long-standing creative collaboration between Viljoen and director Greg Karvellas. Over the years, the duo has brought bold, original South African theatre to the stage, pushing boundaries with thought-provoking, visceral storytelling. Karvellas, known for his sharp eye for new work, once again brings his signature intensity and precision to this highly anticipated world premiere.
