About

Greg Karvellas is a passionate theatre director, creative producer, and acting coach based in Berlin, with deep roots in South Africa. With over 20 years in the theatre and entertainment industry, Greg began his journey as a stage and production manager, gaining diverse experience across South Africa and internationally in both theatre and television, with a strong focus on directing dramatic works for the stage.

In 2011, Greg joined the Fugard Theatre, starting as a production manager. His commitment and talent saw him rise to producer, general manager, and resident director. In 2018, he became the Fugard Theatre’s first artistic director, directing award-winning productions like Bad Jews, Oleanna, Shakespeare in Love, The Father, Road to Mecca, and Master Harold and the Boys until the theatre’s closure due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

During the pandemic, Greg continued his work as a dramaturge and directed and produced online corporate video and film content. His portfolio includes productions for organizations like Cape Town Opera, Virgin Active SA, The Civil Aviation Authority SA, and YONDR Data Centres. In 2022, he directed the acclaimed short film, The Hive. He also contributed to the Fugard Theatre Web Archive with a series of short documentaries. 

Recently, Greg directed and produced MOFFIE at Riverside Studio in London, which received 5-star reviews in major arts publications.

Looking ahead, Greg’s upcoming projects in 2025, include touring MOFFIE to various stages in Europe and the US and directing the South African premiere of DEAR EVAN HANSEN.

Greg’s impressive two-decade career in theatre, where he has excelled as a Director and Producer, also extends to offering comprehensive coaching services for actors of all backgrounds and experience levels, accommodating both seasoned professionals and newcomers.

His coaching approach also places emphasis on assisting English Second Language Performers, providing them with a secure and professional environment to enhance and diversify their skills within the realm of English-language performance.
